KUWAIT - Minister of Social Affairs Saad Al-Kharraz on Wednesday affirmed keenness on women's participation in development planning and decision making as well as activation of their role in civil societies.

The minister, in a statement marking the International Women's Day, falling on March 8, said Kuwait had pledged to implement the 17th Global Goals for Sustainable Development, namely with respect of attaining gender equality.
 
The Kuwaiti women history is rich in sacrifices and successful standing up to challenges, since girls were enrolled at schools in 1937, he said. later on, the female citizens were employed in various sectors, occupying senior posts and rising to prominence at the regional level.
 
The Kuwaiti women interests have gradually mushroomed covering political, economic, cultural and economic domains.
 
Minister Al-Kharraz added that the Kuwaiti Constitution recognizes rights of mothers and children, protects them against violence, grants them franchise in associations and cooperative societies.
 
Elaborating, he noted that the cabinet, in June 2015, approved a motion declaring May 16 "The Kuwaiti Woman Day." Moreover, the Kuwaiti women have attained a host of other rights namely the right to education, housing, employment, in addition to personal freedoms, equality in duties and rights, beside active participation in politics.
