IMF chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, asked about calls by U.S. President Donald Trump for the removal of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, on Tuesday underscored the importance of preserving central banks' independence to maintain their credibility in fighting inflation.
