TUNIS (TAP) - Two Tunisian-French energy co-operation memorandums were signed, on Monday in Tunis, during a working session co-chaired by Industry and Technology Minister Abdelaziz Rassaa and France's Industry, Energy and Digital Economy Eric Besson, currently on a working visit in Tunisia.
The first agreement pertains to a partnership deal in electrical inter-connection between Paris-based MEDGRID international consortium and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).
By virtue of this agreement, STEG will take part in the MEDGRID works for the achievement of the urban development plan of future electrical networks in the Mediterranean.
The second memorandum, concluded between the French Commissariat for the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies, CEA, French leader in photovoltaic energy SOITEC and STEG in setting up a storage development project of concentrated photovoltaic solar energy in Tunisia.
The two agreements are meant to meet the rising needs of households and enterprises, to vitalise research, develop local skills, create new jobs and contribute to territorial balance, in addition to the implementation of the Mediterranean Solar Plan, Mr. Besson specified.
For his part, Mr. Rassaa voiced hope to see the energy field further developed in Tunisia, stressing the need to encourage expertise exchanges, as part of the bilateral co-operation.
It is worth noting that, during this working session, the Tunisian and French delegations also discussed the issues of renewable energies, the digital and textile-clothing sectors.
