ArabFinance: Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia will hold a meeting on June 15th to further negotiate over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Cabinet announced in a June 14th statement.

Tri-party talks took place on June 13th, between the countries’ Ministers of Water Affairs. The meeting reflected many fundamental issues that Ethiopia continued to reject.

The issues include provisions reflecting the legally binding nature of the agreement, as well as the inclusion of a legally binding dispute resolution mechanism.

In addition, Ethiopia rejected addressing technical issues related to the mitigation measures for droughts and prolonged droughts as well as other measures to address prolonged dry years.

Egypt reaffirmed that this agreement relates to an existential matter affecting the lives of more than 150 million citizens of both Egypt and Sudan.

Earlier in June, the three African countries announced the resumption of talks over the filling and operation of the dam.
