The value of humanitarian aid provided by the charitable sector in Dubai amounted to more than $12.5 million (AED 46 million) in the first half of 2021, The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD) said.

The largest proportion of the aids went towards combating the repercussions of COVID-19.  According to IACAD, AED 20 million went to the Community Solidarity Fund Against COVID-19 designed to limit the health, humanitarian, economic and social repercussions of the pandemic.

Another AED 10 million went towards the health sector, benefitting 114 patients, and, an MOU was signed with Al Jalila Foundation to support Hamdan bin Rashid Cancer Charity Hospital with an amount of AED 10 million.

Aid for the education sector was AED 3 million, helping 2,254 students complete their education by supporting their parents experiencing insolvency.

More than AED 1 million worth of aid went towards housing for 29 beneficiaries, and another AED 1.5 million helped prison inmates pay debts to create stability for them and their families, IACAD said.

Other external humanitarian projects, including the Al Twar Center for Dialysis, in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority, the Endowments and Minors Affairs Foundation, Dal Al Ber, Beir Al Khair, Dubai Charity, Dubai Islamic Bank and Noor Bank raised more than AED 7 million.
