NEW YORK: Bahrain yesterday stressed that the Covid-19 pandemic has shown every country the importance of collective global action.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani made the statement as he took part in a ministerial meeting of the Global Governance Group (3G) at the headquarters of Singapore’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
International co-operation must be promoted to adequately address challenges facing countries of the world, he said, adding that 3G and G20 states must work together to overcome challenges.
He noted Bahrain is ready to contribute to these efforts through its presidency of the 2021-2022 Asian Co-operation Dialogue, and continue the constructive partnership with the G20.
The meeting also saw the participation of Saudi Arabia, which chaired the G20 in 2020, Italy, which will chair the group this year, and Indonesia, which will chair the group in 2022.
The Foreign Minister praised the leadership of Saudi Arabia and Italy of the G20, wishing Indonesia every success during its presidency.
The minister met Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia executive director Kairat Sarybay, Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz and International Committee of the Red Cross president Peter Maurer on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
