Dubai: Abu Dhabi’s consumer prices rose by 2.4 per cent in the first eight months of 2016, according to the Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi.
The consumer price index (CPI) for August was 0.5 per cent, year on year, and prices fell 0.7 per cent from July’s prices.
Emirati households experienced lower inflation, 2%, during the first eight months than expatriate households, for whom the figure was 2.7%. Shared households saw a 3% increase in inflation.
Households in the lowest income level saw prices increase of 2.6 per cent, while middle and high income households saw 2.5 per cent and 2.2 per cent respectively.
The Statistics Centre calculates the changes in CPI by weighting prices across 12 expenditure groups, following international classification standards.
The housing, power, water and fuel budget group saw the biggest rise, at 6.6 per cent, with education (4.4 per cent), restaurants and hotels (3.9 per cent) and miscellaneous expenditures (3 per cent) also above the average rate.
Communications (-3.6 per cent) and transport (-1.6 per cent) saw the biggest price falls.
