Egypt - France-based renewable energy firm Voltalia raised its solar-generated electricity production in Egypt to 76.5 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2020, according to a January 26thpress release.

This marked about fivefold increase from 12.7 GWh during 2019, the earnings statement showed.

Voltalia’s installed capacity in Egypt stood at 32 megawatts at December 31st 2020, unchanged from the same period in 2019.

The Arab republic was among the countries in which Voltalia’s production more than doubled. The firm registered “increased contribution from new solar power plants, including the contribution of the newly acquired Ma’an and Mafraq solar plants in Jordan,” according to the statement.

Egypt has reportedly been in negotiations to establish 1-gigawatt new renewable energy developments.
