Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE-based startup Ekar, a pay-as-you-drive car rental service, revealed plan to deploy around 200 vehicles in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport (DoT).
The move comes along with the company’s strategy to expand in the UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom after receiving approval to operate in the UAE in June 2018.
For a start, the company will launch a 100-car fleet in Abu Dhabi (MG 360, MG ZS, MG RX5 and Nissan Kicks), in addition to 100 cars that will hit the streets including Nissan Micras and Infiniti Q70s in 2019, according to Ekar’s recent statement.
Introducing new cars will help in slashing air pollution, lessening parking infrastructure issues, decreasing the need for road expansions and allowing more resources for park development and urban green spaces.
“We aim to apply all initiatives and tools related to sustainable transportation. Spreading awareness about the positive environmental effects is highly important, and also allowing users reach their destinations in the shortest possible time,” Bader Al Qamzi, director of Integrated Transportation Planning Division at Abu Dhabi DoT, said.
He added that the partnership with Ekar was part of efforts to achieve long-term growth in Abu Dhabi.
Ekar also offers rates based on minutes, hours, daily or monthly rentals.
