Tetra Pak signs first ever contract in Saudi Arabia with OPI paper mill

Saudi Arabia - Tetra Pak, the global leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has signed a contract with OPI, a Riyadh-based paper mill producing 80 thousand tons of duplex board annually.

This is the group’s first agreement of its kind with a paper mill to recycle used beverage cartons in Saudi Arabia.

Niels Hougaard, managing director, Tetra Pak, said: “Tetra Pak has been at the forefront of recycling for many years and our 2020 recycling goal is an integral part of Tetra Pak’s strategy to drive environmental excellence.”

He said: “By collecting and recycling used beverage cartons and turning them into valuable materials, we protect natural resources, generate less waste and reduce climate impact.”

He said: “We do not own or operate collection infrastructure and recycling plants, but we make specific investments and provide technical expertise and experience gained globally with recycling partners in countries where carton recycling is required. We also cooperate with all key stakeholders, public institutions, waste management and collection companies, NGOs, retailers and our customers to make recycling work.”

Tetra Pak’s fully recyclable packages enable both customers and consumers to make positive environmental choices.

This agreement between the two groups demonstrates Tetra Pak’s commitment to driving environmental excellence and to contribute to Saudi Vision 2030.
