Further boosting and reiterating its unwavering commitment to Environment, Social and Governance (ESG), Sohar Aluminium (SA) has recently become a “Production and Transformation Member” in the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI), the global non-profit Aluminium standards setting and certification organisation. SA joins more than 190 global producers, upstream, downstream, supporters, users and stakeholders in the aluminium value chain.

ESGs are considered the new vital and trending standards and measures of success for corporations of various sectors, non-profit organisations and even governments. It is a general term used in capital markets and by investors to evaluate the organisation’s behaviour and determine and anticipate its sustainability and future financial performance.

Commenting on this step, Eng Said al Masoudi, SA’s CEO, said: “We have always sought to establish partnerships with renowned and well-recognised global aluminium organisations. We truly believe that these partnerships strengthen our position as a producer of primary aluminium.”

The CEO added: “We have always been mindful and acted in favour of protecting the environment, adopting & implementing high standards in terms of working conditions for our workforce, maintaining excellent relations with our stakeholders, and committing to transparent policies and moral responsibilities, all of which are summarised under the ESG Standards. Joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a commitment of our pledge to continue to apply these standards in everything we do that will ensure our sustainability and create a better future for the coming generations.”

In June this year, Sohar Aluminium took part in the Gulf Aluminium Council’s ESG Week by holding internal activities and initiatives and participating in regional workshops that included executives and employees from other members of the council.
