JEDDAH - A delegation from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), the producer of one of the world's premier automotive specialty products trade events, arrived in Jeddah last week to promote the forthcoming annual Middle East Business Development Program to be held in Sharjah on March 12-13, 2014.

In collaboration with the US Department of Commerce, the 2014 SEMA Middle East Program will gather top Middle East-based distributors and retailers with executives from 40 leading US brands of specialty aftermarket parts and accessories.

At the US Consulate in Jeddah, US Consul General Anne Casper hosted the SEMA delegation, led by Peter Mac Gillivray, Vice-President for Communications and Events, and Linda Spencer, Director of International Affairs, who briefed a group of Saudi distributors, retailers, publishing companies and car accessory dealers about the details and features of SEMA.

US Consul General Anne Casper welcomed her guests and commented on the strong ongoing bilateral relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia: "The United States and Saudi Arabia enjoy a broad, deep and robust bilateral relationship, with cooperation spanning many economic sectors, and based on mutual respect and common interests."

Peter McGillivray said "the SEMA Show draws the industry's brightest minds and hottest products. The promotion of SEMA Middle East here in Jeddah is a very important component of our overall marketing plan especially as we consider the GCC to be a key growth area."

He noted that the Middle East Motor Tuning Show (MEMTS) is the Middle East's premier exhibition showcasing the latest models of luxury and sport cars, modern design and trends in car customization: "It's a wildly active market, and this huge Middle East region is a great hub" he said. There is "high potential in this market and the Middle East Motor Tuning Show is the perfect vehicle to ride the customization wave sweeping the region."

He explained that the show will bring together the world's leading automobile manufacturers and motor tuning companies who will present their latest sports cars, high-performance cars, SUVs, 4x4s and motorcycles, as well as products and services addressing this market segment. In addition, the SEMA show provides attendees with educational seminars, product demonstrations, special events, networking opportunities and more.

The show will include an exhibition of Car Tuning & Performance, Custom-Made Premier Cars, High Performance Cars, Sports & Limited Editions, Classic Cars, Motorcycles and Motor & Lifestyle Accessories from the world's leading brands.

The SEMA Show in Las Vegas typically attracts more than 130,000 individuals from more than 125 countries, making the annual show the world's premier automotive trade event where buyers and sellers meet to do business.

SEMA was formed in 1963 and now consists of 6,383 companies worldwide. "Buyers from all over the world come to the SEMA Show to find automotive accessories that they can sell at their businesses," said McGillivray. He said "As a trade-only event, these buyers represent businesses that are looking to purchase large supplies of products that their customers will demand."

Meanwhile, Linda Spencer, International & Government Relations Director invited Saudi attendees to join the 3rd annual SEMA Middle East Business Development Program.

The SEMA Show is organized by Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA), an industry association focused on the automotive aftermarket.
