Muscat: Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) began implementation of a new sewage treatment plant for Rusayl Industrial Estate. The project cost is estimated at OMR1.4 million with an operating capacity touching 4,000 cubic metres per day.
Eng. Mohsin Al Hinai, director-general of Rusayl Industrial Estate, stressed that the implementation process of the project takes into account the use of latest technology in sewage treatment and control of odour emissions as well as the quality of water treatment.
"The plant, which is expected to start operation at the beginning of next year, will be controlled automatically by Scada system which allows efficient monitoring and control," Al Hinai said.
Scada is an acronym for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, which is a computer system for gathering and analysing real-time data.
"The new plant will replace the current one which has been installed for more than 30 years now. Besides, the old plant has become unable to absorb the increase of required water treatment as well as its system is outdated. The new plant shall adopt an advanced system with an increase in the capacity," he added.
Asked on the important achievements of Rusayl Industrial Estate in 2015, Al Hinai said, "Sixty-six industrial projects were localised in the estate, in addition to the opening of Al Raha Village this year. Al Raha Village is a township project comprising integrated residential, commercial and recreational facilities and other related services. The first phase of the project, which consists of 10 buildings, was officially inaugurated this year. The 10 buildings are currently home to around 4,000 workers."
"The total cost of the investment in the project is estimated at OMR54 million, while the cost of the first phase is estimated at OMR11.5 million. The company in-charge of implementing the project has commenced the second and third phases of the project," he added.
Al Hinai pointed out that the total investment in the estate has touched OMR385 million, consisting local, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and foreign investments. The estate is home to operational units manufacturing a variety of goods, such as furniture, stationary, aluminium, oil equipment, building materials, plastic products, medical products, food stuff, among others.
The total area of Rusayl Industrial Estate touches around 7,894,841 square metres divided into industrial, logistic, residential and commercial lands. Established in 1983, Rusayl is Oman's first industrial estate. As new industrial estates were set up, PEIE was formed in 1993 to stimulate industrial development in the country.
