BEIRUT: The reopening of Lebanons airport depends on a stable decline of coronavirus infections for two weeks, Health Minister Hamad Hasan said after Fridays Cabinet session.

The opening of the airport and the commercial centers has not yet been decided, and we must wait two weeks to decide, Hasan was quoted as saying by local media.

As long as the world is suffering from an international pandemic, the airport needs special arrangements regarding its reopening, mainly related to the number of infections that will come through, he said.

The health minister confirmed that he was satisfied with the decline of coronavirus infections in the country.

Lebanon suspended all of its commercial and private flights on March 18, in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus. Lebanon's only international airport is tentatively set to be reopened on June 8 but this has not been officially confirmed.

Lebanon confirmed four new coronavirus infections Friday, bringing to total number of infections to 1,172.

While infections over the last few days have been low, tests are still under the 2,500 daily examinations that health experts agree are needed to make an accurate assessment of the virus spread across the country and inform public policy with regard to easing lockdown measures.
