Ras Laffan Industrial City's Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP) has extended support to Al Shamal Municipality for installing solar-powered charging stations for mobile phones in three public parks of Al Shamal Area.
The project, which also includes setting up of shaded areas with solar-powered lights in two beaches in the area, is part of Al Shamal Municipality's environment conservation efforts and sustainability development initiatives.
A total of 10 solar charging stations are to be installed in Al Ruwais, Ain Sinan and Abu Dhalouf public parks and 34 shaded areas set up with solar lights in the Abu Dhalouf and Al Ruwais beaches.
The solar-powered mobile charging station is called the "Solar Multi-Function Charging Tree" with each having two light poles which can provide eight hours of continuous lighting.
RLIC-COP offers support to sustainable initiatives for the benefit of the local community in Al Khor and Northern Areas of Qatar. The initiative was established by the seven leading energy companies operating in Ras Laffan Industrial City: Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, RasGas, Al Khaleej Gas, Dolphin Energy, Pearl GTL and Oryx GTL.
Qatargas is managing the project on behalf of the RLIC-COP. Qatargas public relations manager Azzam Abdul Aziz al-Mannai described the initiative as a commendable step in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Al Shamal Municipality director Hamad Juma Jassim al-Mannai said RLIC-COP, as part of its corporate social responsibility strategy, is playing an important role in supporting the local community to undertake sustainable initiatives across various spectrums.
In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, RLIC-COP contributes towards such strategic areas as Environment, Community Recreation, Health, Well-being, Education, Safety and Security. By further developing these key areas, RLIC-COP is able to contribute towards the long-term sustainability of the local community.
The COP office was established in Al Khor in 2011 to serve as the focal point for building closer community relations through effective two-way dialogue and meaningful partnerships that meet community needs.
