Muscat - Majan Electricity Company (MJEC) has launched 11 projects in its concession areas with a value exceeding RO13mn this year. This is as part of its plans to provide continuous power supply meeting highest standards, quality and safety specifications.

It said that this is part of the annual plan for 2019, including expansion of the grid. ‘We have launched a number of 33/11kV substations and 33kV lines to improve power flow in the summer of 2019 and meet the growing demand,’ MJEC stated.

In North Batinah, five main projects have been launched including construction of a 33/11kV substation with a capacity of 2x20 MVA and 33kV supply lines in Majaz, Sohar. It includes construction of two 33/11kV substations with a capacity of 2x20 MVA and 33kV supply lines in Liwa, four feeders with a capacity of 33kV and four fiber optic feeders from the main Sohar Industrial Station to Sohar Water Desalination Plant.

‘This is to enhance the operational safety of plants and ensure continuous supply of power to consumers. Further, the Wadi Ahin substation has been extended from 2x3 MVA to 6x2 MVA and Al Layhban substation from 2x3 MVA to 6x2 MVA.’
In Dhahirah governorate, four vital projects have been launched. ‘The Ibri Industrial Station has been extended from 2x20 MVA to 3x20 MVA. In addition, the Dhank 3 substation of 33/11kV with a capacity of 2x20 MVA has been constructed. Two ground feeding cables of 33kV have been transferred from Dhank main station to Dhank substation. Further, a temporary station at Kubarah Substation has been constructed in addition to the improvement of Dhank Main Station of 33kV.’

In Buraimi governorate, MJEC has extended Al Rawdah (Al Madam) Substation from 2x6 MVA to 2x10 MVA and constructed Mahdah Station (2) of 33/11kV with a capacity of (2x20) MVA along with a 33kV line from Al Buraimi Main Industrial Station.

Eng Salem Masoud al Kaabi, chief operating officer, MJEC said that these projects are part of the agenda for this year to fulfill the growing energy demand, especially during the summers. “There is high consumption due to the expansion witnessed by the industrial areas such as Sohar Industrial Port and the Free Zone, in addition to industrial areas in different governorates within our concession areas.”
