Huawei has relatively been quiet in the laptop scene, mainly focusing on dishing out smartphones that have allowed it climb the charts. Now they want to offer a "complete connected experience" to complement that ascent.

The Chinese tech bigwig unveiled its new MateBook 13in the UAE, with the aim of taking on the market's established players with the philosophy of offering a portfolio that reaches out to all touchpoints of user experience.

"With the success it has achieved in smartphones and wearables, as well as smart home sectors, Huawei Consumer Business Group is clearly ready to leverage its experience in smartphone devices to take on the PC industry," Huawei said in a statement to Khaleej Times.

TheShenzhen-headquartered company also pointed out the challenges in the PC industry, from the emergence of ultra-slim builds to the fast-growing gaming segment, plus top-of-the-line smartphones that are able to - a certain extent - replace traditional PCs.

"The PC experience is being confronted with consumer demands to keep up with the intelligent era of technology," it added.

"Smartphones, smart home devices and tech wearables are rapidly adapting with new innovations, whilst PC devices are desperately in need of enhancements and upgrades in terms of their interactivity and experiences."

This is in fact prevalent in the UAE, ranked one of the most advanced digital economies globally by IMD World Digital Competitiveness' Ranking 2018. Consumers in the country are among the fastest adapters of new tech, is increasingly mobile and always on the lookout for the next big thing.
