MANAMA: Bahrain National Holding (BNH) has announced the formation of a dedicated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) committee with the aim of fully incorporating sustainability practices into the group’s strategy and decision-making processes.
The new committee serves as a testament to BNH’s commitment to long-term sustainability and to realising the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Vision 2030.
The formation of the committee comes following the release of the group’s first ESG report in 2021, in conjunction with its 2020 annual report, marking a new level of transparency for the group, which is constantly aiming to introduce new standards in accountability and commitment.
The committee, which includes representatives from internal members across various functions and divisions, will support the integration, formulation, development and monitoring of the group’s ESG vision, objectives, strategies and structure to ensure that they are in line with the needs of the group and comply with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and international standards.
They will also be responsible for reviewing key ESG trends and related risks and opportunities, assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of the group’s ESG structure accordingly, reviewing the group’s ESG report and other related disclosures, and making recommendations to the board, so as to promote the continuous improvement of the ESG performance of the group.
The newly-formed committee is chaired by senior corporate communications manager and ESG officer Bashayer Dhaif, and the other committee members are: Sami Askar – senior information technology and digital transformation manager; Maryam AlAhmed – senior human capital manager; Faisal Husain – risk management manager; Husain Mubarak – facilities manager; Maryam Abdulla – deputy compliance officer & DMLRO; and Haifa Mansoor – senior brand officer.
The group’s nomination, remuneration and corporate governance (NRCG) committee is entrusted to oversee ESG integration within BNH’s business and operations.
Sameer AlWazzan, chief executive of BNH, commented, “I am extremely proud of all the progress we have made on our ESG initiatives. While we are focused on achieving the group’s vision which is ‘Protecting Prosperity’, a deep sense of social responsibility lies at the heart of our operations at BNH. The formation of this committee will propel our efforts in taking the ESG journey forward.”
Also commenting, Ms Dhaif said: “Sustainability is at the core of what we do, and the ESG report released this year includes our commitment to improving our high corporate governance standards, diversity, green operations, sustainable development and driving greater transparency with stakeholders. The ESG committee will provide enhanced oversight and provide critical advisory support as we work towards building a leading ESG journey.”
