Muscat: Anticipating water supply shortage, the public authority for electricity and water (PAEW) has postponed the transfer of water pipelines affected by the Muscat airport flyover projects, the authority has said.
The transfer of pipelines, which will connect the expanded parts of Barka plant, was scheduled to be carried out on Thursday.
"For the last two days, there was a big consumption of water which indicates that there may be a big shortage in water supply during the scheduled transfer and connecting process," the PAEW said adding that it will work to re-schedule the disconnection process another time.
Recently, Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Mahrouqi, chairman of PAEW had said that water supply situation in Muscat region is 'critical' and an outage in any of the desalination plant will have an immediate effect on the overall supply situation.
Many parts of the capital city are facing water shortage for the last few weeks.
"There is an acute shortage of water supply in Wadi Kabir area. It is continuing for the last few weeks," a resident said.
Residents in Barka also complained the same while talking to Times of Oman.
"For the last few weeks, life has become horrible due to water shortage. Daily life and business is badly hit due to water shortage," the residents said.
