ADQ-backed agritech company Silal is set to launch a new automated packhouse in Al Ain, which will be the largest of its kind in the UAE.

The facility, which covers an area of 14,000 square metres, is expected to deliver up to 216 tonnes of fresh produce daily, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The packhouse is the latest venture that is aimed at supporting the local farming industry. Featuring a grading and packing area spread across 4,930 square metres, the facility has the capacity to pack locally grown produce in less than 60 seconds.

It is equipped with an automation system that can calculate the weight, dimension and condition of fruits and vegetables and adjust packing accordingly to ensure quality.

It is expected to handle 65% of Silal’s future crops.

In September 2020, ADQ launched Silal as part of a strategy to diversify food sources and boost locally grown, raised and manufactured food.

The company complements the Abu Dhabi government’s efforts to ensure food supply in the UAE capital.
