RIYADH — King Saud Medical City (KSMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with The Saudi Green Building Council (SGBC) in a project that promotes energy conservation. This agreement, corresponding to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, emphasizes on energy consumption in terms of using the best methods of practice to support a healthy and eco-friendly environment.

Dr. Haitham Alfalah, CEO at KSMC and Bandar Abdulaziz Alrayes, SGBC CEO and representative, signed the agreement. Additionally, the attendance included Thamer Almohana, Deputy CEO for SGBC and Husam Alshareef, Deputy CEO for planning at SGBC.

During the meeting, Dr. Haitham Alfalah expressed his interest and delight in signing the agreement hoping that it achieves its desired goals. In addition, he added that, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, KSMC is very optimistic in becoming an active leader in environmental conservation and green buildings as enormous efforts will be put to support this initiative. He also noted that this agreement comes as a result of achieving a fruitful cooperation between KSMC and SGBC to find the best methods to develop and support a common understanding regarding the practical and educational mechanisms in implementing this project.

In addition, Dr. Haitham indicated the importance of levitating the level of awareness in the community in terms of promoting the different means of environmental conservation and efficient consumption of energy in the community.

With reference to King Saud Medical City, Dr. Haitham Alfalah mentioned that KSMC as an organization focuses on medical functions where the vision is emphasized on reducing the consumption of materials and how it can be provided in order to reduce the burden on the environment and energy.

Alrayes, SGBC CEO, also expressed his happiness in the agreement and described King Saud Medical City as the “Mother of hospitals in the Kingdom”. In addition, Alrayes, praising this initiative, pointed out that this agreement corresponds with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and that once it is implemented successfully in KSMC, it would have a great impact in the region as it can be applied throughout the hospitals in the region.

In this respect, KSMC has recently launched the environmental sustainability program under the slogan of “Change starts with you” which stresses the strategic plans of KSMC to be covered with an eco-friendly environment. This program aims to develop a framework, which outlines the standards, processes and guidelines through which KSMC manages and recycles waste, as well as controls the water and power consumption.

This initiative will enable KSMC to become an environmentally friendly and sustainable organization while reducing operational costs. In conclusion, KSMC along with SGBC are very optimistic and impatiently look forward for the results in making the environment a healthy place for everyone.
