Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates will unveil a revised master plan by the end of this year, incorporating new residential and entertainment elements and new developments around a pair of proposed Dubai Metro connections, a top company official has said.

The revised blueprint is being designed by the Japanese architectural and engineering design firm Nikken Sekkei and covers “the remaining area of roughly 760 hectares” of the 1,119 hectare master development, company CEO Yousuf Kazim told Thomson Reuters Projects.

The 375-hectare first phase (Phase A) of the master development comprises 16 residential communities incorporating more than 1,800 properties and two championship golf courses, including the Earth course used for the DP Tour Championship, which is the season finale to the European PGA Tour.

“Currently, we are working on the detailed design, infrastructure design. We intend to launch this new mega-project before the end of this year,” he said on the sidelines of Cityscape Global real estate exhibition in Dubai on Wednesday.

The reworked master plan will include more entertainment and leisure components.

“There definitely will be entertainment, leisure in addition to hospitality and retail of which we have seen some in the first part..,” he said.

The first element includes retail spaces, a second clubhouse and a planned hotel, according to a recent statement from the developer.

Transportation systems including the Dubai Metro are expected to play a central role in the revised master plan.

“Do you know of a plot of land in Dubai where you have two metro lines and one interchange? If you have two metro lines [with] one of them serving the two airports, it changes everything,” said Kazim.

The under-construction Route 2020 on the Dubai Metro Red Line and a proposed line connecting the emirate’s two airports pass through the master community.

“Accessibility and transportation and the whole development are being linked into a beautiful concept which will be highlighted further close to the day when we launch this [revised master plan] before the end of the year,” he added.

The original master plan for Jumeirah Golf Estates envisaged four phases of development and four golf courses being built.
