The Italian pavilion will showcase its latest technology in the aerospace sector at Expo 2020, officials said at a press conference in Dubai.

"We will be bring some of the latest technology solutions. It is a way for us to contribute to the progress of the community and improving UAE ties. The beauty of our innovation and technology is that they are the best in their class when it comes to operations. Expo 2020 Dubai will be a base for future combination in different sectors, different people and different geographies," said Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo, at Dubai Airshow 2019, which is currently underway at Dubai World Central.

Paolo Glisenti, general commissioner of Italy for Expo 2020 Dubai, and Profumo announced the appointment of Leonardo as sponsor of the pavilion at a Press conference.

"We want to bring to this area technologies where we have strong competence such as aerospace and managing the environmental topic. Italy will show its own capabilities. Being a proudly Italian champion, we want to be along with other players in this important international event," he said.

Located between the Opportunity and Sustainability thematic areas within the Expo 2020 site, the Italian pavilion will be situated near the pavilions of India, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Japan and the United States. It is estimated that over 28,000 people will visit the Italy pavilion daily and more than five million during the course of a six-month period.

Gilsenti said work on the pavilion will start next month and will be completed in early summer, around three to four months prior to the start of the mega event in October 2020.

He said aerospace is a perfect model of a cooperative approach to innovation and sustainability.

"The cooperative approach and model with which Italy competes today around the world is successful and admired. The capacity of Italy to integrate skills, competence, know-how with territories and people in harmonious way is the beauty that we will take to Expo 2020," Gilsenti said.

"Italy's core theme - 'Beauty connects People' - stands to indicate what innovative technologies linked to creative skills can do to generate a better future by linking space discoveries to earth and sea observation, secure and fast mobility to crisis management and sustainable development," he added.

Nicola Lener, Ambassador of Italy to the UAE, said the government is supporting firms participating in the pavilion.

"Leonardo is helping to contribute growth to our societies mainly through fast mobility and communication solutions, etc. We are happy to see Leonardo investing in the pavilion," he said during the Press conference.
