Although some parts of international sanctions against Iran's oil industry are still in place, the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, aka nuclear deal) has paved the way for further negotiations and closer cooperation, an Iranian oil official believes.
Saeed Ahangaran, secretary of the Society of Iranian Petroleum Industry Equipment Manufacturers (SIPIEM), has told Trend that Iranian companies are still facing the difficulties in getting qualifications from international standard setting bodies due to international sanctions.
Therefore, the Iranian companies that enjoy proper knowledge in manufacture of oil equipment lag behind their rivals in competition for getting shares from regional markets, he added.
The official, however, hopes that his organization will enter the international market in the near future.
According to Ruhollah Ahangaran, the SIPIEM is currently in talks with several international partners to expand cooperation.
Most of international sanctions against Iran were lifted following the implementation of the JCPOA Jan. 16.
However, many Iranian industrialists complain that a major part of the US imposed sanctions against the Islamic Republic are still in place making it difficult for Iranian companies to reintegrate into the world.
In addition to the standard setting bodies, some other international companies, including the topsides and turbines providers are American, which are still restricted from sending technology to Iran.
