Tehran - Iran Aseman Airlines has inked an agreement with Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing Company to purchase 60 Boeing 737 MAX passenger planes.
The agreement was sealed with the attendance of Boeing representatives in Tehran after a year of negotiations between the Iranian company and Boeing.
Under the terms of the agreement, Boeing will gradually deliver the planes to Aseman Airlines as of 2019, five to ten of which will be delivered in the very first year.
Once the new planes join the Iranian carrier, the capacity of Aseman Airlines will rise to above 8,000 seats.
Also, Iran’s national flag-carrier Iran Air signed an agreement last year with Boeing Company for purchase of 80 airplanes.
Sanctions imposed on Iran under false and fabricated pretexts over the past years had prevented the country’s aviation industry from renovating itself.
Boeing Company is an American corporation designing, manufacturing, and selling airplanes worldwide.
The Boeing 737 MAX is an American narrow-body jetliner series being developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes as the successor to the Boeing 737 Next Generation series.
After the nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers and the lifting of sanctions, Iranian airlines are trying to modernize their fleets with new planes.
