The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has set a maximum price of $0.025 for the ongoing tender for the 600-megawatt photovoltaic power (PV) capacity in the West of Nile Area.

This decision came after the solar power price crossed the $0.03 threshold in the company’s tender for the 200 MW Kom Ombo solar project in August.

The Egyptian utility firm has informed all participants of the 600-MW capacity tender that it will not accept bids surpassing $0.025 per kilowatt hour (kWh), local news portal Daily News Egypt reported.

Chinese EPC company TBEA Sunoasis is among the five contenders with projects ranging between 200 MW and 500 MW in terms of size.

Projects selected in the tender will be built under the build, own, and operate (BOO) scheme, and will be awarded long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the EETC.

As for the Kom Ombo project tender, EETC is currently reviewing six bids, including the lowest bid submitted by Saudi-based ACWA Power at $0.02752.

The second lowest offer was by the Spanish developer Fotowatio at S$0.02791 per kWh, followed by an offer proposed by Norway’s Scatec Solar at $0.03045 per kWh.

It is worth noting that offers under the $0.025 per kWh threshold in the MENA region so far have been only made in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan.
