MUSCAT: The College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the London-based Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), a globally reputed institution that offers professional certification in Insurance and specialized financial services. The MoU was signed by Dr Ahmed bin Mohsin al Ghassani, Dean of the College of Banking and Financial Studies and Margaret West, Head of Foreign Operations of the Chartered Insurance Institute.  Ahmed bin Ali al Maamari, Director General for Insurance at the Capital Market Authority (CMA) and Anees bin Moosa al Lawati, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, CBFS, were present at the event.

Commenting on the MoU, Dr Al Ghassani, said the agreement is broadly in keeping with the CMA's mandate to regulate the Insurance sector in the Sultanate. With the support of CII, the College intends to offer professional certificates in the field of Insurance and Financial Planning aimed at developing the capabilities of Omanis in this key sector, he said.

Ahmed al Maamari said the Capital Market Authority is committed to the advancement of the insurance sector.  As a result of the MoU, the Authority will be able to tap professionals with ACII certification from the CII, he noted. Margaret West of the CII stated: "Through this collaborative arrangement, we will be able to support the professional development of the Omani labour market in line with the vision of the Capital Market Authority as the regulator of the sector. I positively look forward to the future and specifically towards increasing joint programmes with the college."
