Power Construction Corporation of China (Powerchina) said on Wednesday that a company owned by its subsidiary, Sinohydro, has signed a $837 million engineering, procurement construction (EPC) contract for the Baghdad South Combined Cycle Power Plant project in Iraq.

The contract was awarded by Jordan's AlDhahir Group for General Contracting, the company said in a stock exchange statement.

The project involves construction of a 1,000-megawatt (MW) combined cycle power plant comprising of two power blocks, the statement noted. Each block would be equipped with 3 9E gas turbines, 3 waste heat boilers, 1 steam turbine and supporting facilities.

The project duration is 36 months, the statement said.
