Bahrain - The BDF Hospital has obtained a European Accreditation certificate for the second consecutive year with the highest merit.

The hospital has thus become the first medical centre in Bahrain to obtain the European and US accreditation in obesity and diabetes surgery.

The hospital has met all the European Accreditation quality and safety standards, said Royal Medical Services Commander Major General Professor Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa.

He hailed the support of BDF Commander-in-Chief Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa and other senior officers.

Around 2,000 surgeries have been performed at the hospital ever since it was established, changing patients’ lives for the better.

“Ninety per cent of patients who underwent surgeries got rid of their obesity, particularly diabetic ones,” said Prof Shaikh Khalid.

The hospital first obtained the European Accreditation certificate in 2015 and has since made major strides, keeping abreast of global medical developments.

Prof Shaikh Khalid is also head of the Obesity and Diabetes Surgery Centre at the hospital. The centre started with stomach ligation, gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery before bolstering its standing as a regional centre for obesity and diabetes surgery.
