Manama: The new state-of-the-art passenger terminal at Bahrain International Airport will open formally in the first quarter of 2020.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed yesterday announced that countdown for the inauguration of the new milestone has begun.
He chaired the national committee set up to oversee preparations to ensure readiness for the successful opening of the new terminal.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, had issued an edict establishing the committee.
The meeting was attended by key officials representing main strategic partners – the Civil Aviation Affairs, Airport police, Immigration and Passports and the Customs Affairs.
Representatives of companies operating at the airport – Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) along with the German Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide, which has been providing operational readiness and airport transfer (Orat) consulting services for the upcoming terminal – were also present.
The session discussed Fraport reports on preparations which are nearing completion, including readiness of the new passenger building and all possible opening scenarios in accordance with pre-set plans.
The minister stressed the importance of co-ordination between all strategic partners at Bahrain International Airport and representatives of the public and private sector.
He highlighted the need to intensify team work to achieve desired goals and provide all necessary capabilities and facilities to the working group at the construction site.
