Manama: Bahrainis doing business online have been given two options in a bid to regulate their activities.
They can either join the Khatwa project – a free scheme for productive families run by the Labour and Social Development Ministry – or opt for Virtual Commercial Registration (Sijili), offered by the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry.
The Sijili e-platform is a business development application for enterprises with an active Virtual CR licence. Those who register will be entitled to all benefits granted to commercial institutions, including Tamkeen support programmes and bank financing. They can also vie for tenders.
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minister, issued directives in this regard as he chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting remotely.
Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani submitted a memo highlighting the government’s programmes to monitor online sales and businesses, including culinary initiatives.
He highlighted the ministry’s constant efforts to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.
Sijili is a commercial registration that grants individuals the ability to practise certain business activities without having to register an office address, Mr Alzayani said.
Integrity
Meanwhile, the Cabinet stressed the importance of fostering the principles of integrity, professionalism, accountability and responsibility, which are crucial to protect public money.
It commended periodic reports issued by the National Audit Office, including the first NAO Forensic Report, urging all government entities to co-operate with NAO and implement its recommendations to preserve public money and promote integrity.
