MANAMA: Alba, the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China, yesterday unveiled its fifth edition of its Sustainability Report which was prepared in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards: Core Option.
In the 2020 edition, Deloitte & Touche has provided independent limited assurance on Alba’s compliance with the GRI Standards and on the preparation of 3 key performance indicators: Total indirect energy consumption (GJ), Total direct energy consumption (GJ) and Environmental investment (BD).
Titled ‘Building the New Norm As We Celebrate Alba Golden Jubilee of Operations’, the report provides detailed insights on the environmental and socio-economic performance as well as sustainability initiatives that have been implemented across Alba’s operations for the period January 01, to December 31, 2020.
Alba chief executive Ali Al Baqali said: “Communicating what we do is what makes us strong. Reporting on our ESG performance is our way of sharing with our various stakeholders what really matters for Alba. Alba was one of the earliest companies in the Middle East region to voluntarily disclose its ESG performance through its first Sustainability Report in 2016. This speaks volumes about the high standards of transparency and governance we have been practicing in all our disclosures. We are also pleased to scale to a higher standard in reporting on ESG considerations with our latest Report.”
Alba’s 2020 Sustainability Report was also reviewed by GRI Content Index – Corporate Core Option.
