ADNOC Logistics & Services (ADNOC L&S), the UAE oil giant’s maritime arm, has acquired six line boats from Sharjah-based Albwardy Damen, for operations at Abu Dhabi’s Petroleum Ports Authority (PPA).

The line-boats were directly contracted from Albwardy Damen as part of ADNOC L&S’s commitment to boost in-country values (ICV) in operations, the company said in a statement.

Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S, said the acquisition was aligned with a strategy of growing the company’s fleet with specialised marine services, including port operations both in the UAE and worldwide.

“We are committed to boost our operations by contributing to the development of high-end shipbuilding and repair capabilities within the UAE.

“The country is emerging as a global hub for maritime and shipping operations, and we continue to enhance the business environment for shipping and affiliated sectors through such targeted capital expenditure.”

The Damen Stug 1606 type vessels can be used for tasks including berthing and unberthing vessels at oil terminals.

ADNOC L&S awarded the contract for the vessels to Albwardy Damen, a subsidiary of Damen Shipyards Group, a Netherlands-headquartered global shipbuilding, defence and engineering services company, in July 2020. Damen Shipyards Group has previously delivered 33 vessels to ADNOC Group across its operating companies.

Last year, ADNOC L&S signed a 25-year agreement with PPA to service all petroleum ports in Abu Dhabi.
