RIYADH: Global hotel companies will enter the Saudi market over the next four years to build and operate about 75 hotels, a top official from the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) disclosed.
The entry of hotel firms in the Kingdom will raise the quality of the market, enrich variety and expand available choices that will cater to the needs of tourists and visitors.
"Several global hotel companies are entering the Saudi market to operate 75 hotels over the next four years, with the support of the SCTNH, as a result of commission's organization and development efforts to create a sustainable business environment for the hotel industry in the Kingdom," said Salah Al-Bakheet Al-Talib, vice president of the SCTNH.
Al-Talib made this remarks after signing an investment agreement with Choice Hotels International, one of the largest hotel companies in the world, at the Saudi pavilion at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM-2016), recently held in Dubai, said the SCTNH media department.
Hotel operators have expressed satisfaction with the new regulations for hotel classifications in the Kingdom.
According to the media department, negotiations are underway with other international hotel companies to enter the Saudi market.
Al-Talib, in his comments, added that the Saudi market is now in dire need of three- and four-star hotels especially since the tourism market for these hotels is steadily expanding and has a large customer base.
