RIYADH: Very soon, Saudi Arabia will announce the first personal status law in its history, following thorough studies and judicial provisions developed by the Ministry of Justice with the participation of committees representing several bodies including the human rights entities and the Family Security Program, a local publication reported.

Nasser bin Daoud, a Shoura Council member, said the code of judicial rulings on the law on personal status is nearing completion, and will soon be submitted to the royal court within a three-month time frame.

He added that the new law will be dedicated to personal status issues including proof of marriage, divorce, annulment of marriage contract, custody rights, alimony, and visitation rights, wills and inheritance, among others.
