The Arab Thought Foundation (ATF) announced in a press conference held in Beirut today (21st of November) the winners of the seventh session of "The Arab Creativity Award" and the fourth session of "Most Important Arabic Book - 2013".
On this occasion, ATF also announced the details of the "FIKR12" annual conference program, which will be held in Dubai, UAE, on 4th and 5th December 2013 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The theme of this year's conference tackles the subject "Job Creation: 80 Million Jobs by 2020 in the Arab World".
"FIKR offers a platform for dialogue between experts, intellectuals, decision-makers, businessmen and government officials to find effective solutions that will help the region achieve its dream of overall development," said Mr. Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Ammari, ATF Deputy Secretary General and FIKR Executive Director.
Arab Creativity Award
The winners of the Arab Creativity Award for this year are as follows: Waciny Laredj from Algeria for his novel "Lolita's Fingers" in the Literary Creativity category; Habib Haddad from Lebanon for "Wamda" Project in the Media Creativity category; and "Al Nayzak" Organization for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation, Palestine, in Societal Creativity category. The Artistic Creativity Award went to The Trio Joubran, brothers Samir, Wissam, and Adnan Joubran from Palestine. The Most Important Arabic Book 2013 is Lebanon's Nader Srage's "The Youth and the Language of the Era: A Socio-lingual Study". As for the Economic and technology creativity awards they were withheld for this year.
Dr. Henry Awit, General Coordinator of the Arab Creativity Awards Committees, clarified that the award is designed to honor Arabic pioneers, innovators and talents, besides spreading innovation in the Arab community and highlighting their role in development. The award also aims to encourage innovators and inform the world about their achievements. The award carries a cash prize of US $50,000 in addition to Medal of Honor and a certificate of appreciation.
Mr. Hamad Al-Ammari said the agenda of the 12th edition of the FIKR conference includes morning lectures and workshops on the following topics: Roadmap for Job Creation in the Arab World, Media Impact on the Enhancement of the Culture of Labor Societies, Public Policy Enhancement in the Arab World, Rethinking Economic Growth towards Productive and Inclusive Arab Societies, Importance of Capacities' Building, Sustainable job creation, Role of the Private Sector in Job Creation, Entrepreneurship and Start Ups, and Volunteerism: A Pathway to New Skills.
Mr. Hamad Al-Ammari said: "The Main Plenary Sessions will discuss the topics: Enabling Job Creation; whose responsibility is it? Public Policy for Labor Market Enhancement, New Societal Economic Culture, and Future Strategic Trends: Towards a Successful Integration. During spotlight activity, partner sponsor Saudi Aramco will offer its Pioneer role in Enabling Job Creation in the Arab World, in addition the topic: Unemployment vs. Available Opportunities.
The event will see the launch of the survey on "Enabling Job Creation in the Arab World" apart from "FIKR & AFKAR" sessions that will highlight successful social entrepreneurial projects initiated by Arab youth. The Conference will conclude by honoring the winners of the Arab Creativity Award and Most Important Arabic Book - 2013," Mr. Al-Ammari added.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Basic Industries company "SABIC" is the exclusive sponsor of the Arab Creativity Award for this year. Mr. Khaled Al Habardi, General Manager of SABIC in Lebanon, who attended the press conference, said: "The human being is the most valuable asset owned by the nation, and supporting innovation and innovators are the best investment for the future, and this is something which has been adopted by SABIC."
Dr. Monira AlNahedh, ATF Deputy Secretary General, said: "The Arab Thought Foundation is keen to adopt projects and initiatives that contribute to achieving an Arabic Renaissance since it has been launched under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal."
Dr. Monira highlighted youth programs, and the Foundation's efforts to engage them in the Arab community. "Education is a key area for Arab Thought Foundation which is carrying out a number of important educational projects in cooperation with different organization," she added.
FIKR12 aims to provide a unique platform for the Arabic youth to network with government leaders, decision makers, businessmen, entrepreneurs, academics, intellectuals and civil society organizations in an attempt to view the challenges and obstacles facing the process of job creation in the Arab world, and to discuss possible solutions to the future needs of the Arabic labor market.
