Dubai: Young geniuses exhibited their creations at the Annual Scientific and Medical Exhibition at the Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman last week.

The exhibition, also called GMU Mase 2014, was held to give pupils a platform to display their talents in exhibiting innovations in science and medicine. Pupils from more than 50 schools from all over the UAE presented their creations, which included anatomical models.

Indian Consul-General Anurag Bhushan inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of the university president, Thumbay Moideen, and other dignitaries. More than 4,500 pupils from more than 250 schools attended.

“This event is a great platform, which encourages innovation, uniqueness and experimentation and that is the only way to let the genius of the students bloom,” Bhushan said.

Prof Mohammad Arifulla, Dean Admissions and Registrar at GMU, said: “Many kids have incredible brains, we wanted to explore the giftedness in a child and this platform brings forth the unnoticed talent amongst young children who, in their formative years, may have decided on their future course of education and specialisation.”

Sobha Mohan, vice-principal of Indian School Ajman, whose pupils participated in the exhibition, said the annual event inspires and encourages young scientists by recognising their talents.

“[It] showcases the fact that the path to a sustainable future for the UAE lies in the power of talented youth. As role models, they are empowered to encourage further exploration and development of knowledge, analytical thinking and skills in their peers as they cooperate to solve local and global technological issues,” Mohan said.

Priya N.V., a teacher from Al Ameer English School, said many pupils who viewed the anatomy specimens were inspired to study medicine.

Exceptional works were recognised on the last day of the exhibition. Cash prizes worth more than Dh25,000 were given to the winning pupils.
