Taiwan machine makers are bolstering their brand images in the UAE market

Dubai, UAE, 12 March 2014: Taiwan produces high quality and high value-added solutions in all areas of the machine industry, including textile machinery, rubber and plastic machinery, and machine tools. Taiwan's machinery makers are building their brand awareness and loyalty in the UAE market.

Machinery Exports to UAE

According to statistics from the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), in 2012, the UAE ranked 23rd for imports of Taiwan machines, importing over US $132 million dollars in Taiwan machinery.

Textiles

Taiwan's world-renowned textile machinery industry utilizes novel methods to produce high quality and high value-added products. The island continually works to enhance its advantages in areas such as hardware and software integration along with R&D to widen its lead in the sector over competitors.

Taiwan's textile machinery industry is second only to the machine tools and plastics & rubber machinery industry in Taiwan. In the first four months of 2013, the total export value of Taiwan's textile machine industry was US$182.4 million. Despite its declining market share in Taiwan in recent years, its overseas sales have continued to grow. According to the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, the value of Taiwan's textile machinery exports in 2012 stood at US$573.7 million, with a growth of 6.7% year-on-year. Moreover, the industry's average annual export value has risen by 4.6% over the past 5 years.

Taiwanese manufacturers possess significant advantages in the textile machinery industry in relation to hardware and software integration and R&D, especially in areas where computer control and high automation are required. Taiwan textile machinery companies continue to devote themselves to R&D in order to speed up the development of new products.

The industry's primary exports are, in descending order, dyeing and finishing equipment, auxiliary machinery, knitting machines, sewing machines, weaving machines, spinning machines, embroidery machines, and textile machine components.

Due to limitations in the domestic environment and severe international competition, Taiwan's textile industry has gradually shifted its focus to innovation, R&D, and design-oriented sectors, as well as developing products possessing high economic benefits, including ODM and OBM models. The local industry is not only increasing the diversity and added value of its products, but is also undergoing a highly efficient value transformation.

Da Kong is Taiwan's first hosiery knitting machine maker. The company is the second largest in the world market for sales and the first in Asia.

Among Da Kong's advantages is its uncompromising quality assurance, refined workmanship interwoven with experienced manufacturing know-hows deeply rooted in Taiwan. It owns one R&D firm devoted to develop computerized controller for knitting mechanism in Italy, from which it holds essential technologies in innovating fully automated hosiery knitting machines.

Pai-Lung is a world-leading knitting machines manufacturer. For sustainability, Pai Lung continues its efforts in innovation. The firm's knitting machines are mainly characterized by the widest range of choices in the industry for needle pitch and cylinder diameter in all type of machines. From 4 to 42 gauge and 2" to 64" diameter, Pailung's capability provides custom request knitting machine model and fabric applications including apparel, high-tech industry, and aerospace purposes.

Pai Lung has a complete production system equipped with a number of the most up-to-date facilties: computer-controlled flexible production system, automatic warehousing, various advanced CNC working machines, and affiliated companies to produce key components and parts - cams and needle cylinder.

Rubber and Plastic

Taiwan is among the world's leading nations in the global plastic and rubber machinery industry due to its strategic position, manufacturing expertise, and product innovation. Additionally, Taiwanese firms are moving from traditional equipment towards high-tech integration and all-electric powered machinery to keep pace with global trends.

Taiwan's advantages in the global plastic and rubber machinery sector include its strategic geographic position, global logistics capabilities, manufacturing strength, product innovation, and exceptional human resources. Moreover, the government's large-scale support of the sector along with the steady effort of companies has helped Taiwan's machinery industry to accumulate impressive capabilities in R&D, manufacturing and marketing.

The total amount of plastics and rubber machinery manufacturers in Taiwan is listed at around 200, with an estimated 98% being SMEs, with 90% being concentrated in the Tainan, Taichung, and Hsinchu regions of the island. Although these three areas have different positioning, they are all helping to boost the quantity and quality of the machinery industry by promoting a cluster effect.

According to statistics from TAMI, in the first four months of 2013, Taiwan's plastics & rubber machinery exports reached nearly US$406.9 million dollars. In 2012, Taiwan's plastic and rubber machinery industry saw a production value estimated at around USD $1.6 billion, a 1.6% growth over the previous year.

The top production quantity is in injection molding machines, followed by extrusion molding machines, blow molding machines, vacuum forming machinery, thermoforming machines, tire making machinery, and other special molding and assorted machinery.

Horng Tair Industrial Co., Ltd. has been in the blowing film extrusion machinery industry since 1988 and is now a professional, leading manufacturer in producing extruder, die head, air ring, die rotary mechanism, screen changer and gear boxes. The firm is also launching related products to fit clients' further needs and expand the depth and breadth of its product lines.

Horng Tair invests a significant portion of its annual revenue in technology innovation, applying for 3 to 5 patents annually. The company also customizes and improves any kinds of blown film extrusion machines for its customers in accordance with their machines as well as provides technical services for value-added differentiation from competitors.

With an export ratio accounting for 75% of revenue, Horng Tair markets itself under its own brand and applies different marketing channel policies for different countries. In UAE, the company sells multilayer molds with medium or low output.

Machine tools

As of 2012, Taiwan was the world's sixth largest producer of machine tools. Moreover, the government's large-scale support of the sector along with the steady effort of companies has helped Taiwan's machinery industry to accumulate impressive capabilities in R&D, manufacturing and marketing.

Taiwan's machine tool industry currently has the highest production among all categories in the machinery industry, with 75% of the island's machine tool production going to the export market. According to TAMI statistics, in the first four months of 2013, the total export value of Taiwan's machine tools was nearly US $1.1 billion. Taiwan's machine tool industry currently has the highest production among all categories in the machinery industry, with 75% of the island's machine tool production goes to the export market. China was the largest importer of Taiwan machine tools, followed by the U.S. and Japan. According to TAMI, China, the European Union, ASEAN nations and the U.S. make up about 75% of Taiwan's total machine tool exports, with Germany forming the biggest market in the EU.

The majority of Taiwan's exported machine tools currently consist of metal cutting machines, including machining centers and lathes. Taiwan's machine tool exports between 2012 and 2015 will consist mostly of machining centers, metal forming machine tools, as well as drilling machines and tapping centers.

Taiwan has built up its machine tool industry over a period of more than four decades. Long-term investment by Taiwanese firms in the development of key machine tool parts and components has successfully boosted the industry's performance and technological expertise. And local manufacturers that in the past chiefly supplied domestic machine assembly companies have been successful in developing international markets. As a result, Taiwan machine tool parts companies have enjoyed excellent growth and profitability.

Taiwan's precision machinery industry is currently clustered in four industrial parks: the Taichung Precision Machinery Park, Taichung Fengchou Technology Park, Chiayi Dapumei Precision Machinery Park, and Changhua Erlin Precision Machinery Park. Although these four industrial parks have different positioning, they are all helping to boost the quantity and quality of the machinery industry by promoting a cluster effect.

Hiwin Technologies Corp. is one of the largest motion control and system technology manufacturers in the world. Its complete product line includes precision ball screws, linear guideways and industrial robot, all with the features of high speed, high precision, multifunction, and environmental protection. Hiwin has been actively engaging in R&D innovation and brand innovation, not only receiving the "National Invention Award" numerous times, but also the "Taiwan Excellence" gold and silver awards from 2001 to 2013.
