Muscat: The National Business Centre (NBC), part of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE), on Wednesday signed an agreement to help Anwar Al Majed United Company to benefit from the NBC support dedicated to the small and medium enterprises.

This agreement comes in line with the National Business Centre's mission to support major projects of interest to the nation, as the centre presents an ultimate platform to support entrepreneurs and start-ups in order to achieve the desired growth in the domestic market and find access to competition outside the country.

The idea of setting up the Anwar Al Majed United Company, which is specialised in electric power, was inspired by a graduation project in 2010, according to Abdullah bin Rashid Al Badi, owner of the company.

Power monitoring device
The company was able to get a patent via creating a security and power monitoring device for electrical networks. Anwar Al Majed also obtained a license to commence electrical business with electricity distribution companies in the Sultanate, comprising Muscat Electricity Distribution, Mazoon Electricity Company, Majan Electricity Company, Dhofar Power Company and Rural Areas Electricity Company.

Al Badi said that the company provides a range of services, including building electrical substations, building electrical networks, electronic metres installation, prepaid metre installation, temporary connections installation, and protection and security electrical networks installation.

"When the National Business Centre was inaugurated, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the PEIE to establish a factory for electrical networks protection and security to operate within the industrial estates. The MoU also stated the provision of technical, logistics and administrative support by Shumookh Investment and Services, besides undertaking a feasibility study of the device and developing a factory for the manufacture of the product," Al Badi pointed out.

PEIE initiative
The NBC is an initiative launched by the PEIE at the Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM) to offer promising Omani entrepreneurs a platform to develop their business ideas and advance them into growing ventures. The centre attempts to become the premier platform for Omani entrepreneurs by providing business development support and guidance, training and mentoring, access to markets and industry experts and state-of-the-art, fully equipped, office space, meeting rooms and presentation facilities.
