World Future Energy Summit 2013 to Offer Experience of Smart Cities with Schneider Electric

Abu Dhabi-UAE: 06 January, 2013 - Consider the phenomenal amount of energy that would be saved if the lights in office buildings knew when to go out - switching off automatically at the end of a working day. Schneider Electric's 'SmartCity' tools offer such intelligent solutions that actively reduce power consumption in buildings by up to 30 per cent.

With a looming energy crisis, adopting 'efficiency' and 'sustainability' is a philosophy that the global leader in energy management and efficiency solutions takes seriously. Winner of the Zayed Future Energy Prize 2012, Schneider Electric's best-in-class solutions are set to gain industry spotlight at the sixth World Future Energy Summit (WFES), the world's foremost annual meeting committed to advancing future energy, energy efficiency and clean technologies. The event will be held from 15-17 January at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibtion Centre. Platinum sponsors of WFES, Schneider Electric's stand will be located at Hall 5, booth #5120.

Speaking ahead of the event, Goktug Gur, Country President - UAE, Oman and Pakistan, Schneider Electric, said: "This is the year of smart cities. Our focus for WFES 2013 is on solutions that improve our surrounding environments. With urbanization expanding at lightning speed, we at Schneider Electric are working to face inevitable challenges - solving today's problems with tomorrow's technologies. Smart Cities are an integral component in overcoming the challenge."

Visitors to Schneider Electric's stand at WFES will acquire insight into the revolutionary 'SmartCity' range of critical infrastructure management tools. This includes the 'SmartCity' technology, which integrates SmartGrid solutions for meeting electricity demands and renewable energy, SmartMobility to facilitate resident mobility, and electro-voltaic (EV) solutions; SmartWater that safeguards against water hazards and manages growing water demand; Smart Public Services for public safety, healthcare and government administration, and Smart Building and Homes for planning and optimizing resource consumption and comfort.

Schneider Electric's booth at WFES will also feature dedicated sections to showcase its hotel, healthcare, and renewable energy offerings. Schneider Electric representatives will be on hand to discuss the Energy University, the company's online training and education portal, as well as highlight career opportunities at Schneider Electric.

In a unique format, Schneider Electric will share the platform with few key customers from the region - Masdar, the Intercontinental Hotel Group and the Hilton Group of Hotels. The customers are expected to detail out their association with Schneider Electric and share how Schneider Electric's energy management solutions have helped them overcome their respective energy challenges.

Gur added: "With our track record and specialization in efficient buildings, we are applying our expertise to entire cities to increase efficiency, improve quality of life, and drive sustainability. The 'SmartCity' technologies will help the world's cities manage their energy, water, space and other resources collaboratively."

With cities occupying just two per cent of land mass, housing half of the world's population, consuming 75 percent of energy output, and emitting approximately 80 percent of carbon emissions, it is clear that the energy challenge will be won or lost in the cities.

Schneider Electric is working on projects around 230 cities and regions to help them improve the efficiency and sustainability of their urban infrastructure, as well as set and meet ambitious environmental goals while consistently staying within their budgets.

According to the 'Smart 2020' report, published by Accenture in 2011, the use of smart technologies in electrical grids, transport, shipping, buildings and industrial motors could reduce global emissions by 15 percent by 2020 and save about US$900 billion a year in energy costs.
