Iran's first indigenous petrochemical plant will be launched in the next two months, an official said on Monday.

"Takht-e Jamshid Petrochemical Plant has the capacity of producing 30,000 tons of synthetic rubber (SBR) and 18,000 tons of polybutadiene (PBR) per year," added Ali Mohammad Bassaqzadeh, production manager at the National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NPC).

Bassaqzadeh noted that the polymer production unit of Lorestan Petrochemical Company will come on stream by March 2015, which has the capacity of producing 300,000 tons of polymer each year.

Iran produced 40 million tons of petrochemicals last year and $9 billion worth of its products were exported.

The country plans to increase petrochemical exports to $12 billion this year.

Iran's petrochemical exports increased 6 percent between March and June.

Deputy Managing Director of NPC Mohammad Hassan Peivandi said in July that domestic sales of petrochemical products also soared by 6.6 percent in the same period compared to the corresponding figure of last year.

"The figures show a 6-percent rise in petrochemical exports and a 7.3-percent increase in domestic sale," he said.

The official noted that production of petrochemical industries has jumped by 6.5 percent over the same period, due to higher efficiency and lower work stoppage in petrochemical units.

Peivandi further said that in terms of value, the sale of petrochemical products in the three-month period was 13 percent higher than the corresponding figure of last year.
