GEM becomes first Middle East-based company to be given such recognition
For its pro-active approach and positive influence upon BP's shipping aim to improve and sustain an exceptional standard of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance, Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM) - the Middle East's largest independent commercial product tanker operator - has been bestowed with the prestigious 'Partner of the Year' award by BP.
GEM is the first Middle East-based Tanker Owner /Operator Company to receive such recognition during the 8th annual BP Shipping CEO's HSSE Forum and Awards in London. Additionally, the award is an acknowledgment of GEM's provision of a service that is above and beyond the scope of normal expectations and its leadership in HSSE efforts both onshore and at sea. .
"In what has been a very difficult year for the shipping industry, this award is credit to everybody associated with working at GEM and our commitment towards exceptional HSSE performance throughout the fleet," said Ahmed Al Falahi, CEO of GEM. In 2011, GEM received its first Ship Owner / Operator Award from the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards, following three successive years of having been bestowed with the Safety and Quality Award.
GEM's other awards from previous years and from other award-giving bodies include those from Lloyd's List Middle East Shipping Awards in the Clean Seas category, as well as being declared as the 'Tanker Company of the Year' in 2008.
GEM is certified by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance to the ISO 9001-2000 Quality Management System and ISO 14001-2004 Environment Management System for the operational and technical management of its fleet.
