UNDP , "State of Green" & ' Regions 20" global partners

26 January 2014, Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The two days "World Green Economy Summit" planned to be held in Dubai next year in April 15 and 16th, has stirred global interest according to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer , MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). "Over the past three weeks we have signed partnership agreements to support the organization of the summit in Dubai with the United Nations Development Programme at the UN HQ in New York and with "State Of Green" the national green brand of Denmark, on the sidelines of COP19 in Warsaw" stated Al Tayer during the second Higher Organizing Committee meeting held in Dubai to review the progress of the summit global partnerships and program development.

Al Tayer pointed out that Dubai's green infrastructure and smart city projects will stimulate green growth and sustainable development globally and serve as a model to transform vision into reality through the adoption of policies and strategies that promote sustainable growth of the economy across the region. He also reiterated that hosting the World Green Economy Summit, is in line with the UAE national strategy "Green Economy for Sustainable Development" launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai, with the aim to make the UAE a world leader in the field of green economy and a global hub for the export and re- export of green products and technologies.

Al Tayer also highlighted the strategic support extended to the summit by Dubai Supreme Council of Energy that aims to achieve the goals of the Dubai integrated energy Strategy 2030 and the founding members of  "Dubai Green Economy Partnership", a global initiative of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Crown Prince of Dubai , Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, launched last year and attracted leading public and private local and international partners promoting green trade and investment in a region of over 2 billion consumers and the first multi-stakeholder program in the region that promotes public -private partnerships to accelerate the transition  to a green and low-carbon economy.

Pointing out that the summit will be held under the title of "Global partnerships, Sustainable Future " and will promote the transition to a green economy through green trade and investment and long-term public-private partnerships, Walid Salman, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the organizing committee stated that a significant number of international organizations are interested in supporting the summit and a press conference will be held in January to announce key partners and supporters.

The "World Green Economy Summit" (WGES) is the first green economy summit in the Middle East and North Africa region, bringing together government, business and finance leaders to forge global partnerships and provide paths to a sustainable future for humanity.
