06 January 2016 - DUBAI, UAE

Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Chairman, Al Habtoor Group spoke to Al Arabiya TV Channel about an ambitious project he is considering in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

In an exclusive interview with Business Lunch on Al Arabiya on Wednesday January 06, 2016 Al Habtoor said that he has submitted a proposal to the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to build a multi-use development in Cairo - the largest city in the Middle East.

The large-scale development, on more than 800,000 square meters of land, is based on the Al Habtoor's Group's highly-anticipated Al Habtoor City project in Dubai, which incorporates three luxury hotels alongside three high-rise residential towers on the banks of the Dubai Water Canal.

Al Habtoor said, "It would be a vibrant community in the heart of the city and new landmark in Cairo. It would provide much-needed jobs for the Egyptian people and would be a great boost to the city's economy."

Al Habtoor City in Dubai employed some 8,000 people during the construction phase, which is still ongoing. Once complete, it will provide a further 3,000 jobs. The complex is opening in phases. The first hotel within the development, The St. Regis Dubai, opened late 2015. The two other hotels are scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2016 (W Dubai - Al Habtoor City, and Westin Dubai, Al Habtoor City).

The proposal for Al Habtoor City Cairo incorporates three luxury internationally-branded hotels, three high-rise residential towers as well as a cluster of mid-rise residential apartment blocks, 204 luxury villas set within picturesque landscaping and boasting state-of-the-art facilities, an international school, a shopping complex, two polo fields and a golf course.

Complementing the development would be numerous high-end retailers, and multiple food and beverage outlets within the hotels and shopping complex. The shopping centre covers 290,000sqm (3,055,000sqft) of rental retail space.

The Chairman said, "There is nothing like this anywhere in the world. It is all encompassing. Residents and guests would have everything they need on their doorstep."

Al Habtoor said Egypt offers huge potential. "We have been studying the idea for some time. Egypt is ready for an investment of this scale."

The Chairman elaborated on the details on the proposal which has been submitted following his recent visit to Cairo where he met with President el-Sisi.
