ABU DHABI, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) said on Tuesday it had cancelled a tender to buy wheat.

Ahmed Youssef, vice chairman of GASC, did not give a reason for the cancellation.

The tender was seeking wheat for Sept. 21-30 shipment.

Cairo-based traders said they were surprised by the decision to cancel after hours of negotiations with several suppliers who had presented offers to GASC.

GASC spoke with Venus about their offer and negotiated prices downwards with both Nidera and Louis Dreyfus, they said.

"It is unclear why they would cancel after that," one trader said.
