ABU DHABI, 24th October, 2016 (WAM) -- A dinner banquet was held at the UAE Embassy in Japan to celebrate the achievement of the Emirati jiu-jitsu team, which on Saturday harvested 13 medals in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam at the Big Turtle Fukaya Arena in Tokyo.

Expressing his delight at the achievement and the strategy pursued by the UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation, the UAE Ambassador to Japan, Khalid Omran Al Ameri, who hosted the banquet, stressed that the embassy will provide full support to the team at the next event.

Al Ameri thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for supporting the team and the sport in achieving this milestone.

Abdul Munem Al Hashimi, President of the UAEJJF, who is also the President of the Asian Jiu Jitsu Union (AJJU) and Vice President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF), greeted the national team and stressed that the national union has spared no effort to support the team, Member of the board of UAEJJF Yousef Al Batran noted at the ceremony.

Leader of the UAE jiu-jitsu team Faisal Al Ketbi gave a presentation on the sport, and noted that there are some 76,000 men and women players in the UAE, thanks to the support extended by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
