"Tunisia is working to establish a new industrial strategy for 2030," said Minister of Industry and Trade Zied Ladhari.

Speaking to TAP on the sidelines of a conference organised by the National Agency for the Promotion of Scientific Research on ways to strengthen innovation and technology transfer in Tunisia and Algeria, the minister stressed that "this strategy aims to bring together research structures and the Tunisian economic and industrial fabric."

He added that the strategy which study will be launched shortly will allow Tunisia to position itself on the world market. It will help promote scientific research, intelligence and human energies, he pointed out.

Efforts will focus on building a knowledge, technology and innovation economy for export. They will also be based on added value and not only on the job creation capacity, said Ladhari, adding that "the current state of the relationship between Tunisian economic and industrial companies and research structures falls far short of the expected goals."

The conference, organised under the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) established by the US Department of Commerce, is an opportunity to support technology transfer offices in Tunisia. The aim is to benefit from successful experiences in this field.

Experts from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as experts and academics from Tunisia and Algeria took part in this conference.
