KUWAIT CITY: The next parliamentary elections will most likely be held within the first half of 2017, not during summer or the holy month of Ramadan as speculated earlier.

According to a reliable parliamentary source, the next Parliament is expected to make a difference in the political life in Kuwait, considering the anticipated changes in its composition or the entry of new members.

The source pointed out this will prompt the government to rethink its way of dealing with the legislature. On the announcement made by those who boycotted the previous elections that they will participate in the 2017 election, the source said there will be surprises in the coming days, particularly in the number of candidates and this will defi nitely affect the structure of the next Parliament.

Asked about the possibility of annulling the next Parliament through a judicial decision, the source stressed, "Everything is possible and every development has its own story." Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa denied rumors spread through social networking sites that the Ministry of Higher Education intends to sell the Secretarial Institution building of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) to a foreign private school. Earlier, MPs Faisal Al-Shaye and Saleh Ashour submitted questions to Al- Essa about the issue.

The minister asserted that the ministry, PAAET or any institution has no right to sell a State property and calling on anyone who could prove otherwise to approach the public prosecutor. He added the ministry will take legal action against those spreading false information, as such acts impede work procedures and raise doubt on the integrity of the institution.
