RIYADH, 24th October, 2016 (WAM) -- Anas Khalid Al-Saleh, Kuwaiti Minister of Finance, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Oil, has confirmed the significance of coordination among GCC countries to enable them to defend their economic and oil interests.

Mr. Al-Saleh, in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, following the 35th meeting of the GCC Petroleum Cooperation Committee in Riyadh, said that the meeting reviewed a host of major topics to foster pan GCC cooperation and coordination in the field of energy and petroleum.

Mr. Al-Saleh added that ministers considered the recommendations of the 16th meeting of the GCC Oil Ministries Under-Secretaries held in the Saudi capital on 9th of October, and made suitable decisions.

He added that the committee followed up activities and achievements of the sub-committees on the GCC petroleum media strategy, the Unified Mining System and its executive rule, and the regional emergency plan for petroleum products in the GCC.

The committee also reviewed the outcome of meetings of the affiliate task teams with international groups and blocs, as well as the GCC's position in negotiations on the Climate Change Agreement and the World Trade Organisation, the minister noted.

On the sidelines of the meeting, another meeting was held with the Russian Energy Minister, Alexander Novak, which covered conditions on the global oil market, the agenda of Vienna technical teams meeting today, and arrangements for the forthcoming OPEC meeting.
