Dubai: Going for a jog on a professional track and using gym equipment in their neighbourhood will be a reality for labourers living in Al Muhaisnah and Jebel Ali, thanks to a Dubai Municipality project to build exclusive jogging tracks and sports facilities for them.

The civic body has recently issued work orders to complete the project of running tracks and sports facilities at Al Muhaisnah and Jebel Ali labour accommodations, Juma Khalifa Al Fuqae, director of the General Maintenance Department, said in a press release on Tuesday.

He said the project includes a 1,500 metre long jogging track in Al Muhaisnah and a 700 metre long track in Jebel Ali as per the standard specifications in order to provide an opportunity for labourers to walk and run in their residential complexes.

Being implemented at an estimated cost of Dh3.8 million, the project will also set up exercise equipment necessary for muscle building at both these camps. Work is also being carried out in coordination with the Public Parks and Horticulture Department to provide the necessary green corridors at both the places.

Al Fuqae said that such projects come in line with Dubai Municipality’s plan to support the provision of an adequate health environment for all workers and improve the living environment for them as well as to provide sports and health facilities in line with health and safety rules. It is also one of the important projects to make Dubai healthier and happier as it is concerned with the health and well-being of the workers, the official said.

The project includes a lot of foundation work that is required to prepare the track and build the necessary layers as per the specifications to facilitate exercise activities properly and securely, in addition to providing walkways with interlocks, painting work and planning for the final rubber layer for the tracks.
